Operation Blue Christmas
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Operation Blue Christmas (OBC). Being the first project that the Boll Weevil Charity Foundation undertook, OBC is very near and dear to our hearts. It has allowed us to spread Christmas cheer throughout the city that we love, while shining a light on the incredible men and women that tirelessly work to keep our community safe.

Last year, Operation Blue Christmas was accomplished through two phases. Phase 1 with the help of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Phase 2 with the help of the Memphis Police Department. Target aided us with the purchasing of the gifts in both phases.
Phase 1: Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Phase 1: We will be sponsoring Vollentine Elementary School. The Shelby County Sheriff Office has picked 85 “Angels” kids with low-income families that they will be providing Christmas. We will do this in a private room. Target and the Weevils will be providing gift bags for the entire School (approximately 300 kids). Phase 2: Memphis Police Department
For Phase 2 of OBC, we got MPD in on the action. MPD identified ten families whose homes had been burglarized in the first two weeks of December, many of whom had had their Christmas gifts stolen. MPD then gave us a shopping list of what was stolen from each family. Again with the help of Target, we purchased the replacement items, and then we traveled to each family with several MPD officers and delivered the gifts. Being able to help bring the Christmas spirit back into the lives of those families was a wonderful experience.
Where You Come In We need your help! While we are thrilled to carry out the shopping and delivery of the gifts, and the SCSO and MPD are excited to provide us with a list of worthy recipients. We need your help in funding Operation Blue Christmas. Our goal for this year is to raise $25,000. With that amount we will be able to truly change the lives of many families in our community this Christmas season. Thank you in advance for your support of OBC and showing your appreciation for our community’s law enforcement officers and your love for your neighbors in need. |
